The THIRD READING AGE


  • The THIRD READING AGE is the ERASMUS+ co-funded project aimed to contribute to increasing accessibility to new communication technologies for older adults and develop the reading culture among citizens aged 60+. The project focuses on developing competences of educators and library staff working with older adults so they can adapt their teaching to their local context and learner needs. The project intends to develop new educational material and resources to support activation of older adults in the digital space.

    Online Reading Curriculum for Older Adults: How to Become a Digital Reader
    The Online Reading Curriculum is aimed at facilitating, encouraging and re-thinking reading for older adults using new technologies. The main output objective is to increase accessibility to new communication technologies for older adults and develop the reading culture among citizens aged 60+.

    The Curriculum will develop senior's competences in:
    • basics of using e-books and their possibilities,
    • running and maintaining a creative online blog,
    • designing an e-reader club.

    E-reading Community Portal: The Digital Reading Age
    The e-reading community portal is an open-source online learning portal. It features activities and tools in 6 different languages (Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, English, Italian and Latvian).

    Activities are divided into 6 major categories as:
    • Use of digital technologies
    • Critical reading
    • Communicating and debating
    • Book clubs
    • Critical writing
    • Guest authors
    All activities withing each category are also available for self-directed learning for any (senior) citizen in a need developing competences of using digital tools, participating in reading clubs, or using national e-reading resources. The portal provides a space for senior learners to connect at the national level to form online (reading) communities.

    Training Programme for Adult Educators and Library Staff: Senior Learner Manual
    Senior Learner Manual was created in order to support the delivery of Online Reading Curriculum for Older Adults and E-reading Community Portal and ensure a quality training outcome is achieved. This training programme is set as a package of learning manual and handbook. It places a significant emphasis on working with non-traditional learning approaches with the full consent of the digital media in its use. It explores the different roles that educators are required to adopt when working in these environments. .
